Tom Boonen will ride disc brakes for his final pro season. "It's the biggest improvement I've seen in my career on bikes, so it would be stupid not to use it," the Belgian told Cyclingnews in Argentina after a final training ride ahead of the Vuelta a San Juan.
UCI heel dragging and slashed Italian knees aside, we've been seeing at least 60% of our builds go disc over the last 18 months. The control is amazing, so whatever the pros have to ride this is one case in which we're actually seeing consumer pick up based on merit.
"They work better, they're easier to control, they lock out less fast than normal brakes. Of course I can control normal brakes but with disc brakes you have so much more feeling. It's the biggest improvement I've seen in my career - I don't know what all the hassle is about."
