Pas Normal Studios Solitude Jersey and Bibshorts
What is Solitude?
No, I'm not getting all philosophical on you, but lets have a look at where this fits into the Pas Normal Studios collections:
The PNS range used to be quite simple; Mechanism was the classic super-race cut (see my review here) and then came the Essentials range which had similar classical styling but a slightly more relaxed fit. So far so easy…
Then the Solitude range was launched and I wasn't quite sure what it was - until they explained it to me on a call we had discussing Pas Normal's future plans (including some upcoming Bespoke/PNS shop rides, which will be cool!).
The Solitude range is cut like Mechanism (a big plus in my eyes) but its for those epic days out; think a 6 hour ride alone in the Alps.
Its designed to be used in hotter conditions, so has mesh sides as well.
The bibs are like the Mechanism bibs (are you seeing a recurring theme here?) which means the same great pad, race cut and perfectly weighted leg grippers. The main difference I can see is the bib strap is ventilated which aids in the summer heat.
A short-term test
In use I really liked it - it's as they say on the tin: a better ventilated Mechanism jersey and bibs. Form-fitting, but comfortable for long days in the saddle, and particularly in warmer conditions.
Its not hot enough yet to truly notice the mesh sides; but come July and I will likely have this on in the Alps.
I have the White jersey, which looks very smart indeed. My other favourite is the Navy... I'm personally less keen on the Light Blue and the Green, but it's purely down to personal preference. They also do a classic Black one which will appeal to those who want to be a bit more discrete…
I must admit I do prefer the Mechanism colours; but that's just because I think they look so punchy. That's not a criticism of Solitude though, just a reflection of how much I like the 2018 Mechanism range!
