If you read our guide to adventure bikes you'll know that bikes designed for heading off the road and onto the trails are gaining popularity all the time, and the latest bike company to offer a suitable bike for such mixed terrain riding is Trek. It's launched the new Domane Gravel.
It's the first time Trek has offered a bike designed for gravel and adventure riding, but it is actually using the regular road-base Domane but with a few key equipment changes.
Wider 35mm Schwalbe G-One Allround tyres on tubeless wheels are the significant difference to the standard Domane models. There's also compact gearing and wide-range cassettes to ensure you don't run out of gears on the steepest terrain you might encounter.
The Domane features unique front and rear Isospeed decouplers that aim to smooth out the bumps and should be well suited to riding off-road. There are three models, the top of the range Domane SLR 6 Gravel pictured above with a 600 Series OCLV Carbon frame and adjustable rear Isospeed that you can customise through Trek's Project One program.
There's also a Domane SL 5 Gravel with 500 Series carbon frame and front and rear Isospeed (but not the newer adjustable rear Isospeed) and a more affordable Domane SLR 5 Gravel with an aluminium frame.
