Zipp may have dabbled in (relatively) more affordable wheelsets over the years, but none have really caught the collective imagination in the same way as their premium NSW range.
That seems certain to change with these new wheels, which bring all the features you'd expect in a modern carbon wheelset whilst hitting a very competitive pricepoint.
There are some interesting differences from their predecessor, the 302 Disc. The 303 S have not only shed over 150g in weight (with the same 45mm rim depth) but are now able to accept significantly wider tyres. They've even dropped the price - the SRP is now just £985 per pair, cracking that psychologically important £1000 barrier.
The spec is well considered, with sensible, proven components that make the wheelset's 1525g weight all the more impressive: Zipp's own hubs, bladed CX Sprint spokes (of the conventional, easy to replace J-bend type) and brass nipples for durability.
A wider rim (23mm internal) allows for fatter tyres with greater air volume, run at lower pressures. This brings multiple benefits, including lower rolling resistance, improved comfort, and better grip/handling thanks to an increased contact patch with the ground.
The hookless rim means that you can only use these wheels with tubeless/tubeless ready tyres, but it also smooths the transition between tyre and rim for maximum aero efficiency.
The 303 S give optimal aero benefit with 28mm tyres, but will happily accept up to 50mm wide, making them a serious contender for fast endurance road builds as well as gravel/adventure.
Best of all they come with Zipp's Lifetime Warranty, reflecting the confidence Zipp have in the quality of their wheels.
First stock is expected towards the end of May.
We already have the 303 S in our online Bike Builder, allowing you to create your own dream build with these new wheels.
They'll soon available to pre-order online, meanwhile you can email us to reserve a set from the first batch - we reckon they're going to be in high demand.
