Join us as we welcome Frank Strack, founder of the Velominati and author of "The Rules", to mark the launch of his new book: THE HARDMEN: Legends of the Cycling Gods.
Frank will give a brief talk on the history and heroes of the book, followed by an opportunity to pick up your own signed copy. A great way to get a bit of cycling into your lunchtime!
The book is packed with the true, epic stories of cycling's greatest heroes, and makes for perfect winter motivation to get out there and ride no matter what.
We were pleased to find that there are no national or gender restrictions to the definition of a 'hardman'. A host of cycling greats are included, from the hardman's hardman Sean Kelly to my own personal hero, the great Beryl Burton.
40 cyclists are included, all detailed with the wit and warmth you'd expect from the Velominati. This is no dry history book, although it is packed with true stories, it's a set of cracking tales of valour and determination that will appeal to any cyclist and equally entertain the armchair fan.
The founder of Velominati and curator of The Rules, Frank was born in the Dutch colonies of Minnesota. His boundless physical talents are carefully canceled out by his equally boundless enthusiasm for drinking. Coffee, beer, wine, if it's in a container, he will enjoy it, a lot of it. He currently lives in Seattle. He loves riding in the rain and scheduling visits with the Man with the Hammer just to be reminded of the privilege it is to feel completely depleted. He holds down a technology job the description of which no-one really understands and his interests outside of Cycling and drinking are Cycling and drinking.
As devoted aesthete, the only thing more important to him than riding a bike well is looking good doing it.
Frank is co-author along with the other Keepers of the Cog of the popular book, The Rules, The Way of the Cycling Disciple and also writes a monthly column for the magazine, Cyclist.
